We are excited to announce the release of an aftermarket hydraulic master cylinder conversion package for the 1988-95 Chevy/GMC C1500 trucks and full size blazers to replace the OE hydraulic master cylinders. If you have a 96-98 model these are not a direct bolt in due to some firewall and pedal changes.
You may be wondering why it would be necessary to make this swap in the first place since all the OBS truck came with a hydraulic clutch system, but with the OE hydraulics there was only a small external slave cylinder that moved a traditional clutch fork rather than an internal release bearing that all the new manual transmissions use today. Those external slave cylinders operate on a much smaller volume of fluid movement which means you only need a small bore and stroke master cylinder to pair with it. Today's aftermarket release bearings that are used in many of the Tremec transmission conversions require a higher volume of fluid movement to achieve clutch release, and those OE master cylinders just can't provide the volume needed. The conversion kit we've created utilizes the existing mounting location of the OE master cylinder and the OE clutch pedal to achieve the easiest swap possible without the need for any modifications to the truck. This also allows us to retain the correct pedal geometry to maintain a soft pedal feel and steady, even clutch release during take off. |
