The Goodguys Pace Car was finally revealed at SEMA 2017. What was hiding under the cloth was a 1979 Foxbody Mustang built by Goolsby Customs. This car signifies a change to Goodguys’ policy, which now allows vehicles 1987 and older into their shows beginning in 2018. Their previous policy limited eligible vehicles to 1972 and older. Designed by Eric Brockmeyer, this Mustang was widened in the fenders and quarters to allow for the large 18×10 and and 19×12-inch Forgeline center-lock wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

The car is supported by a fully independant Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis. The engine comes in the form of a Ford Performance Aluminator XS V8 which provides 500 horsepower and an 11:1 compression ratio. This is mated to a Bowler Performance Transmissions Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission. The torque is routed through a Ford 9″ rear axle, and finally Baer brakes bring it safely to a stop. The colors you see on the exterior are a combination of PPG Vibrance colors to achieve its eye-catching look.

The interior rocks a fresh look thanks to M & M Hot Rods Interiors. Drivers of this car will stay extra comfortable sitting on the reshaped seats wrapped in black Relicate leather, while enjoying a perfect air temperature thanks to the Vintage Air system. Gauges were created by Dakota Digital and pedals are Lokar Goolsby Editions. For audio entertainment, a high-powered Kicker audio system is installed. The detail and craftmanship in this 1979 Foxbody Mustang are certainly impressive and we’re looking forward to seeing a wider variety of vehicles at future Goodguys events.
